In this set of materials, both the reading passage and the lecturer discuss the salinity of lake's water has increased due to the evaporation of water over the years. The reading passage firmly states that there are several methods for controlling and even reversing this trend. However, the professor casts doubt on each of the reasons. He says it would be great if we could impose these solutions, but they are not practical.

Firstly, the article contends that by utilizing the desalination devices, we can separate the salt from the lake's water. On the other hand, the lecturer articulates that the desalination process has some problems. When the water evaporates, the solid materials remains which contains some chemicals such as Selenium which is toxic. As a result, a wind can brings these poisonous materials into the air and brings about some health problems for people.

In addition, the essay alleges that another method to reduce the salinity of lake's water is to dilute the salt's level of the lake with water from other sources such as ocean via pipelines or canals. Nevertheless, the lecturer avers that constructing the canals and pipes from the ocean to the lake is very expensive, and the government cannot afford it.

Eventually, the text asserts that the salinity of the lake could be controlled by constructing some walls and dividing the lake into several sections. Thus, in this situation, the salinity of the central part could be handled. On the contrary, the professor declares that constructing the walls will not work in the long run. Because in that location, there are significant tense geological activities such as earth-quake. Therefore, a considerable earth-quake can collapse the walls, and causes mixing of the waters and increasing the salinity of the largest part.
