The lecturer and the reading passage offer three opposing views on the methods which are proposed to solve the salinity problem. While there are some reasons stated in the reading passage that support these methods, the lecturer casts some doubts on the reasons and states that these techniques would not be pragmatic and realistic.

First, the lecturer asserts that using the method to remove salt directly from water can cause to some other dangerous problems. While it is mentioned in the reading passage that salt and other materials would be separated from pure water in this method, the lecturer says that the other materials which are left behind are toxic and can adversely effect people health.

Next, the lecturer states that the ocean is 100 Km far from the lake, so, bringing water from the ocean is an expensive method. Although it is stated in the reading passage that bringing water from ocean would reduce the amount of salt in the water, the lecturer claims that due to large expenditures of pipe line construction and also lack of financial resources, this method would not be practical too.

Finally, the lecturer mentions that separating the lake by constructing dividing wall will work just for a short time. Although it is stated in the reading passage that this method is an efficient method to reduce and control the salinity, the lecturer claims that this method cannot work for a long time. She asserts that the lake's area is exposed to large earthquakes frequently. Hence, the first major earthquake will destroy the dividing walls and separated water would mix back again.
