the reading and the lecture are both about of time people spend reading literature nowadays. the author of the reading believes that people especially young people are reading fewer novels, poem, .... the lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article and brings up three reasons to reject the specific point in the reading passage. she thinks that it is not true.
the first point the author makes is that this has unfortunate effects on culture in general. it is mentioned that nothing else can provide the intellectual simulation that literature does. the lecturer opposes this point by saying that books like history, science writing are highly qualified. she states that they are well-written book and also are highly qualified. therefor the can create a creative simulation.
secondly, the author contends that many people are now prone to watch tv or music video instead of reading challenging novel. the article notes that this change has lowered the level of culture in general. the lecturer rebuts this argument. she thinks music and movie and songs are culturally valuable. she elaborates that culture changes today, so it has many forms. she states that watching brilliant song and movie is not wasting time.
finally, the author asserts that this is a period which there is good literature. the article establishes that due to poor standards of today's readers the writing of literature is likely to decline. this concept is refused by the lecturer which asserts that we should less blame the readers and blame the author. Furthermore, she argues that today's writing are difficult to understand.
in conclusion, the lecturer and the author appear to be in disagreement about a decline in literature reading. the writer believes that has negative effects on readers which is contradicted by the lecturer.
