In the lecture, the professor holds an opinion that the evidence is not solid and the reading is unconvincing, which opposite room what the article claims three arguments support the Peary's claim. Compared with the points presented in the reading, the professor refutes them one by one.
Initially, the professor illustrates that the committee is biased, because the committee funding the Peary and did not examine the records completely. This directly contradicts what the reading passage states the National Geographic Society with a committee appraise Peary's evidence carefully and conclude them convincingly.
After that, the speaker points out that the recent trek cannot support the Peary's claim. The weather condition and other conditions of Avery's trek is different from the Peary's one, so these two trek cannot be compared. This also different from the reading , which indicates that recent expedition of a British explorer can defend Peary's claim.
Finally, the professor asserts that the photograph cannot prove the Peary's expedition. The technique of photography can precisely imitate the shadow of sun. Also, the photo is faded and it cannot be used to calculate the position of sun. This counters the reading that some photographs taken by Peary can support his reaching the North Pole.
