The reading and the lecturer are both about the existence of burning mirror. the author of the reading believes that it is just a myth and the Greeks never really built such a device but the lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article and brings up three reasons to reject the point in the reading passage.
The first point the author makes is that Greeks were not technologically advanced enough to make such a device, and it is mentioned that the technology for manufacturing a large sheet of copper did not exist in that time. the lecturer opposes this point by explaining that dozens of small polished copper may do the same job and Greeks were excellent enough to accomplish it perfectly.
Secondly, the author contends that the burning mirror would have taken a long time to set the ships on fire. the article notes that burning mirror would therefore have been very impractical. the lecturer rebuts this argument. she suggests that wood is not the only thing that can be used in burning mirror. she thinks they used pitch which can catch fire very quickly.
Finally, the author states that a burning mirror does not be an improvement on a weapon that Greeks already had. the article establishes that Greeks had no reason to build a weapon like a burning mirror. this concept is refused by the lecturer which asserts that if the enemy instead of familiar weapons watch a burning mirror, they are really surprised so it is very effective.
In conclusion, the lecturer and the author appear to be in disagreement about a burning mirror being impractical. the author thinks it is just a myth which is contradicted by the lecturer.
