Both author and lecturer offer two opposing views on the coin excavated in the Maine as the genuine historical evidence of interaction between the Native American dwellers and the Norse. While the reading part lists three reasons to reject the accuracy of this evidence, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into the question for the information mentioned in the passage.

First of all, the article posits that the long distance between the Norse's settlement and the site where the coin has been found is a clue of the fake historical evidence. However, the instructor challenges the validity of this claim. As she asserts, the Norse people were eager to move the long distances and obtained the objects from those spots. Thereby this coin could have remained for this long trip to the Maine.

Secondly, the text mentions that since there is no other coin in the Maine site, this is the invalid case as the historical clue. On the contrary, the lecturer dismisses the validity of this surmise too. Based on her declaration, the Norse did not have the permanent residence in the Marine site, and after a while, they had returned to the Europe. It is feasible that they packed up whole their possessions and one of the silver coins had been forgotten in the site.

Finally, the reading passage assumes that for the sake of the trivial value of the silver coin for the Native American, it was useless to them. On the other hand, the professor states that although the silver coin did not own the same monetary value for the Native Americans as it has nowadays for us, as it was an attractive object it could have the alternative usage. For instance, it could have the utilization as the jewelry or the necklace, due to its appealing appearance.
