the way used by humpback whales to navigate themselves during long-distance migration
Both the reading and the lecture talk about the way used by humpback whales to navigate themselves during long-distance migration. The author of the passage strongly postulates that they use stars as navigator objects and provides three reasons to strengthen this hypothesis. In contrast, the professor denies each of the reasons mentioned by the author of the article, though he thinks that this postulation is amazing.
First and foremost, according to the author of the excerpt, the high intelligence of humpback whales make such a claim, using stars to navigate, convincible. Nevertheless, the professor in the lecture rejects this point by referring to some animals like some birds using stars to find their ways, but they have average genius. Seeing such animals provides us with the idea that there are not any connection between clever level of animals and their ability to use stars' signs to navigate.
The professor in the lecture further asserts that humpback whales are equipped with biomagnetic substances in their brains which help them to maintain themselves in each orientation they want. Such a claim refutes the assumption of reading that humpback whales are able to migrate in straight lines since stars bring them with external signs.
The text lasting insists that spy-hopping showed by humpback whales is a reasonable indication that humpback whales look at stars to do so, especially they are looking upward in these times. Nonetheless, the professor in the lecture rebuts this by explaining that not only are there some animals that do spy-hopping for looking for their preys, but also humpback whales do such an act during day when any star did not exist.
