By analyzing the data and looking into the matter clearly, we can find that this is a normal process that has happened before.

Even though we have documented a rise in the polar ice melting, this isn't the reason for the increase in the sea level. That ice is already in the water, so it displaces it already. Think of ice cubes in your glass of water, when they melt it doesn't make the water from the glass spill over. The same thing happens when the ice cap melts. Since the Ice is 90% already in water, when it goes into a liquid state, nothing drastic happens.

When it comes to the source for the increase in the sea level, we just don't know where it comes from. Many scientific agencies like NASA have stated that they simply don't know from where all this new water is coming. So it is still a great unknown

The sea level has been fluctuating ever since the continents have emerged from the primordial ocean. We have seen many changes through the eons, half of our current landmass was submerged at one point. The same will probably happen later, and it will be through a slow and gradual process. Enough time will pass for humanity to adjust

To begin with the author argues that, since most of the world's ice is already in water it constitues to the sea level's rise. Hence melting of ice and glaciers is not the reason for the recent increase in sea level. The specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. She claims the current effect on the sea level is because of the melting of permafrost, and the melting is not the important factor here. Additionally, she says that it is the matter of caution because the permafrost is not the part of the sea. It is a part of land that melts and then goes on to be a part of the sea and consequently contributing to the rise in sea level.
Secondly, the writer suggest that the source of increase in sea level is not known. In the article, it is said scientists from NASA have also do not know the reason behind the effect. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning that even though NASA stated about the reason being not known to them as well, they clearly supported the claim about the permafrosts being melt. She elaborates in this by bringing up the point that the main reason being permafrost melting quickly is the current human activities.
Finally, the author posits that the sea level have been vacillating since the time continents emerged and observed these changes to continue gradually into the future. In contrast, the lecturer's position is that she denys the author's claims, as the since these permafrost have been frozen for thousands of years and suddenly if they are melting at such a pace is a matter of concern. She metions that the main reason for the melting is the everday increasing use of the fossil fuels and if this keeps on continuing then possibility is soon the 20 percent of our land will be in the water. Hence we don't have much time and need to act now and quickly to avoid the consequneces.
