Societies make laws to ensure that individuals can live with each other. They act as checks and balances for the benefit of the people and for maintenance of peace and harmony in the society. The laws govern every individual such that if obeyed, we will not encroach on other people's boundaries. Therefore every law is expected to be for the good of every person in a society and to obey them will serve us more good than harm.
