The effectiveness of a country's leaders is best measured by examining the well-being of that country's citizens.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

All the people living in a country are 'what the country represents'. it is the people who make a country, the most accurate measurement of where a country stands. I completely agree with the statement that to measure the effectiveness of a country's leaders, it is best to check the well-being of the country's citizens. I am going to put forth a couple of reasons for the same.

Firstly, even the best of us tend to forget that we, the common people, are the center of attention of every leader. we have given them their posts and their job is to uplift the poor in our country and develop the country as a whole, not just a particular demographic. In countries where leaders have assimilated this fact, it is quite clear from the average per capita income and quality of life standards how effective the country's leaders have been. For instance, if a country undergoes a change of leadership, to see if the new government is more effective than the previous one, we must look at the well-being of the people. if the quality of life has increased it easily results in increased hygiene and well-being.

Secondly, it has been shown that well-being is a direct marker for work efficiency and personal betterment. The term 'well-being' comprises of a plethora of factors like mental health, physical health, and happiness, only to name a few. if a country's leaders are working effectively and with good motives, these factors would gradually increase in the public leading to the upliftment of the country as a whole, not just the individual.

However, many people might argue that instead of well-being, we should measure the GDP (or any other factor) of the country to quantify the effectiveness of the leaders. To which, I would like to ask, isn't the well-being of a person the ultimate factor responsible for everything else, even GDP? For example, if a person is sick he won't go to work or if he does, he would perform sub-optimally, either of which in-turn affects the throughput of his workplace, which ultimately affects the gdp of a country itself. So, in conclusion, everything in a country is closely tied to the people residing in it. And a leader's metric for effectiveness and functionality should be the 'well-being' of the people in his/her country.
