Essay topics:

A nation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college.

The statement suggests that a same national curriculum should be studied by all its students until they enter college. It seems that if students all around the nation are to follow a same national curriculum they might end up having an all-round development of skills, but it can have many unforeseen consequences that need to be addressed and so I disagree with the given statement.

To begin with, if a student has no electives available to him to choose from until they enter the college, they will be missing opportunities to discover their passion by exploring the subjects they actually like. On the other hand, if they were given the options to choose from different subjects, they can pick up the subjects they think grasps their interest the most. Only after doing so they will realize whether or not they actually want to study that further which will avoid bad decisions for them in the future while they are committing for a specialized college degree.

Furthermore, a nation can consist of multiple cultures all around the nation. For example, a nation like India has myriad states and people in each state speaks a different language. So even the job opportunities that are available for the state requires students to have knowledge of their local language. By setting a national curriculum throughout the nation, students will not get to learn their local state language and will miss out on the jobs that demand applicants to have fluency in the local language.

Another big question that comes up is: who decides what will be the curriculum for the entire nation? This topic is definitely moot. People from different states in a nation will have different opinions or take on what subjects will be the best for the entire nation which can result in discord between different committees within the same nation.

Finally, there may be few nations where students will not have any idea of what the future holds for them. They may not even be aware of the options that they have in the future. In these cases, if they have a fixed agenda to be followed in their curriculum until they enter college. It may actually be more helpful to students as it will result in an overall development of the students.

In conclusion, a nation should keep in mind a lot of factors, such as mentioned above, before deploying the same national curriculum for the students until they enter college. If all the aspects related to students' choices, locality and such are deliberately considered before taking such a nationwide decision, it will make sure that the right decision is made for the nation which will result in a better future for all of its students.
