The bar chart below shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.

The bar chart compares ten highest-ranking countries in terms of electricity generated and consumed in 2014. Units are measured in billion kWh.

Overall, all the countries except Germany produced more than they consumed. The largest production and consumption of electricity was found in China while Korea, Rep. generated and consumed least amount of electricity.

China was the world largest electricity producer and consumer with over 5,000 billion kWh each. It was followed by the USA, which generated over 4,000 and consumed around 3,900 billion kWh, while Russia was responsible for one-fourth of that amount, at just over 1,000 billion kWh. Japan and India had similar figures, between 856,7 and 1,057 billion kWh, while Canada, France, Brazil ranged between nearly 460 to over 600 billion kWh. It is noticeable that although Germany was the only country which produced only 526,6 billion kWh, it consumed slightly more than 582 billion kWh. Korea, Rep. accounted for the smallest levels of production and consumption, namely approximately 485 and 450 billion each.
