The chart compares three income groups in terms of the averagely spent amount of money on three kinds of fast foods weekly in Britain. The graph also illustrates the changes in the consumed fast foods during 20 years annually, from 1920 to 1990.
Overall, as can be seen from the bar chart, people categorized into high-income group generally spent more money to eat fast foods, compared to the other groups. It is also clear that while hamburgers were the most popular fast food among British people with high-income, low-income people tended to consume fish and chips more. Regarding the line graph, the main trend is the steadily increased amount of hamburgers and pizza over the period shown.
Regarding the chart, while the high-income group spent over 40 pence averagely on hamburgers per week, followed by the average-income group who spent 33 pence, only 15 pence spent on purchasing hamburgers by the low-income group. However, rich and poor people spent the same amount of money on fish and chips, at 17 pence each, which was the most favorite fast food among the poor people, whereas people were in the middle class bought more fish and chips, at 24 pence. In addition, there was a significant difference among groups as to the expenditure spent on pizza. The wealthy people spent the highest amount of money on pizza, at 18 pence, followed by the average-group people with 10 pence, and the lowest income people spent the least amount of money on pizza, at just 7 pence.
Turning to the line graph, it appears that in 1970, fish and chips were the most popular consumed fast food among British people, standing at 300 grammes. However, over the following 15 years, there was a steady decrease in the consumption of fish and chips, reaching 200 grammes, before gradually rising to 240 grammes at the end of the period. By contrast, the amount of used pizza that initially stood at 20 grammes, the lowest rate, increased gradually over the next decade, at 80 grammes, and then experienced a significant growth, reaching its peak at 280 grammes in 1990, after surpassing the consumed fish and chips in 1988. Finally, the consumption of hamburgers increased gradually to 100 in 1975, and then it continued its upward trend over the rest of the period shown, reaching a peak of over 500 grammes in 1990.
