The chart below shows the number of men and women in further education in Britain in three periods and whether they were studying full-time or part-time.

The bar graph demonstrates how many male and female people were using further education during three different academic years in UK. It also separates full-time learners from part-time learners.

Generally speaking, the number of people in further education has grown from 1970 to 1990, although men who enjoyed part-time education has shown decline.

The number of females who used part-time further education has increased from 800 thousands in 1970/71 to about 1,100,000 in 1990/91. Following a similar trend, those women who were in full-time education has grown from about 50,000 in 1970/71 to more than 200,000 in 1990/91.

The graphs also show that full-time male learners statistics has risen from about 70,000 in 1970/71 to about 260,000 in 1990/91. In contrast, part-time learners decreased from 1,000,000 in 1970/71 to about 950,000 in 1990/91 after a fluctuation in the middle of this period.

It is worth stating at this point that while the number of female people was less than male learners at the beginning of the period both in part-time and full-time graphs, the number of women who used part-time further education became more than men at the end of the period in 1990/91. Although as far as full-time education is concerned the number of men is still about 20,000 greater than women.
