The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billion) of telephone calls in the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995-2002.

The bar chart gives information about the quantity of telephone (in billion minutes) calls made in the United Kingdom during the period 1995-2002. The source of calls can be used to divide them into three categories – local – fixed line, national and international calls – fixed line and mobile calls.

The local landline calls dominate the scene during the year 1995 with over 70 billion minutes of calls made as compared to 35 billion minutes of national and international calls. The mobile based calls were significantly low (3-4 billion minutes) in the year 1995 which could be attributed to the mobile phones being relatively new and expensive technology.

The numbers, however, change as one can observe steady growth in the mobile phone usage from under 5 billion in 1995 to 45 billion minutes in the year 2002. Even though the mobile users increase, the fixed line local calls also exhibited a decent rise hitting the pinnacle (90 billion minutes) in the year 1999 and followed by a gradual decrease thereon, to 70 billion minutes in the year 2002. Interestingly, the fixed line remained a stable choice for users to make national and international calls throughout the period with a small increment every year in the volume of calls.
