Overall, the average class size for pupils in lower secondary school was higher than the figure for primary school. In addition, South Korea had a higher number of students on average in classrooms in comparison with other countries.
In terms of primary school, both Japan and South Korea had the average class size above 30, which were 32 and 31 respectively, while the figure for the United Kingdom and Mexico were the same 25 in 2006. In contrast, the average number of student in each class in Denmark and Iceland were lower, which were roughly 17 and 18 correspondingly. These figures were also lower than the World average that was about 19.
With regards to lower secondary school classes, the average pupils in a class of three countries South Korea, Mexico and Japan were fairly high, which were 42, 34, and 32 respectively in 2006. The figure for the United Kingdom was lower that is 24. Nevertheless it was still higher than Demark 19 and Iceland 16 that were also lower than the World average that was 20.
