The charts below show the percentage of their food budget the average family spent on restaurant meals in different years. The graph shows the number of meals eaten in fast food restaurants and sit-down restaurants. You should write at least 150 words.

The graphic shows the what kind of meals the families preferred to eat and how much they spent over them. Budget spending for two types of food – home cooked and restaurant meals are compared for every 10 years since 1970. Further, insights are provided for two types of non-home cooked foods – fast food and sit down meals.

In the year 1970, a significant portion of the food budget for households was spent on home cooked meals as compared to a meagre 10% on hotel dishes. This number, however, grows gradually over the years reaching 35% in the year 1990. A year into the new millennium and the modern families spent for home cooked and restaurant meals in equal portions.

In order to compare what choices families spent their budget in a restaurant on, the food is divided into two categories, namely, fast food and sitdown restaurants. The line chart is used to compare the consumption in meals per year. The sitdown restaurants were chosen to eat meals over fast foods till the year 1983-84. Following which, the locals began to prefer fast food. Hence, the fast food meals served per year skyrocketed since then and continued to do so till the year 2000.

However, the number of meals/year in increased for both types, regardless, from 1970 to 2000. This trend correlates with the data observed from the budget spending pie-charts.
