The charts show school expenditure and the proportion of students who gained
higher education diplomas and degrees in Singapore from 2000 to 2012.
A glance at the diagrams reveal the total spending on boys and girls schools and the percentage of students in higher education who attained diplomas and degrees in Singapore in the timeframe of 12 years, from 2000 to 2012. Overall, it is evident that the total expenditure on school for boys was substantially higher than that of girls. It can be also observed that more students achieved higher education diplomas compared with those who were awarded degrees.
Looking at the bar chart, there was an upward trend in the total school spending on girls and boys schools. In 2000, a total of approximately $10 millions was spent on boys schools , which was merely higher than that of girls schools at roughly $8 millions. While the figure for boys schools witnessed a considerable rise from exactly $ 20 millions to reach a peak of $32 millions in 2012, the spending on girls schools plateaued at over $10 millions between 2004 and 2008 and then continued to climb to $20 millions at the end of the period.
Turning to the second chart, the proportion of students obtaining diplomas in 2000 was 73%, which was higher than that of graduates with degrees (27%). After 12 years, the figure for diplomas suffered a mild decline to 68% as opposed to a 5% increase seen in the percentage of students who graduated with degrees.
