The line graph compares four different countries in term of the accommodation of overseas students over a period of 18 years in Australia.

It is clear that Indonesia had the highest number of students study abroad. However, the number of students in four countries increased considerably over the years.

The number of Singaporeans coming to Australia for study increased gradually from 0 in 1982 to about 10,000 in 1995 before a significant climb to approximately 20,000 in 2000. Similarly, the figure of Hong Kong stayed as same as Singapore until 1987, followed by a sharp rise to nearly 18,000 at the end of the period.

In comparison, after a sharp rise from 5,000 in the first year to about 8,000 students in 1983, the number of students in Malaysia stayed unchanged until 1984, then reaching a peak of almost 18,000 in 1997 before went down at 17,000 in 2000. The number of Indonesian students increased moderately from 0 to 10,000 in a period of 12 years starting from 1982, followed by a sharp rose to about 26,000 in 1998 then dropped suddenly in the next year before climbed to 22,000 students at the end of the period.
