The graph below shows the number of passengers railway journeys made in Great Britain between 1950 and 2004/5.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given line graph compares the number of passengers using three different types of the railway in Great Britain, from 1950 to 2005.

Overall, while the use of the national railway and London Underground fluctuated all over the time, the light rail and metro systems witnessed an increasing pattern. A vast majority of passengers prefer to use the national rail network.

The light rail and metro systems only appeared in the 1960s and carried insignificant passengers at that time. In 1980, this kind of railway reached its lowest point at approximately none travelers; however, it dramatically rose to nearly 175 million people in 1985 and continued to climb up. This figure already rocketed to 220 passengers in 2005.

In 1050, the national railway already transported 1000 million people while London Underground conveyed 700 million. This figure for the national railway peaked at 1,100 million travelers as the highest point, since then it collapsed significantly and increased again in 1983. Passengers of London Underground remained unchanged in 1975 and declined in 1975 and reached its lowest point at 500 million. But then, it leaped substantially in the next 30 years, almost equal to the passengers of the national railway in 1989 and 2000. By the end of 2005, the travelers of London Underground surpassed that of the national rail network.
