The chart provided illustrates the amount of cargoes transported in the Britain by four different kinds of transportation from 1974 to 2002.
It is evident that over the period of 28 years, the quantity of merchandises transferred by road, water and pipeline saw an increase altogether while the number transported by rail remained almost the same.
The number of cargoes vastly transported rose largely by 78 million tonnes to 98 million tonnes in 1974 and 2002 respectively, while the lowest amount came from pipeline, which showed an significantly rise, with an 5 million tonnes and 22 million tonnes in 1974 and 2002 in turn. The quantity of goods transported by water was unchanged with approximately 40 million tonnes from 1974 to 1978, then it saw a considerable fluctuation in the next 20 years before starting to grow exponentially to about 63 million tonnes.
The amount of commodities conveyed by rail was almost constant in the first 4 years with 40 million tonnes before plunging to nearly 24 million tonnes in 1994 then it began to climb back to the amount of goods transported in 1974.
