The graph shows the amount of money spent on books in Germany, France, Italy and Austria between 1995 and 2005. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line chart compares the spending on books by people living in four countries from 1995 to 2005.

It is obvious that expenditure on books increased in each country during the 10-year period, with the biggest rise taking place in Austria. However, Germans spent by far the most on books in each year.

In 1995, Germans spent $80 million on books. The figures for France and Italy were lower, at just under $60 million each, which was nearly double the amount of money used for books by people living in Austria.

However, after climbing slowly of $10 million in the initial six years, Austria's expenses on books soared to just over $70 million in 2005. Nevertheless, spending on books by Germans remained the highest throughout the following 10-year period, reaching $100 million in 2005.

Both France and Italy saw expenditure on books grew to approximately $55 million in 1997. Subsequently, the rise in France continued and peaking at around $75 million in 2005, but the figure for Italy dropped slightly in 1999 and then increased steadily to just over $60 million at the end of the period.
