Overall, total electricity production increased significantly from 1980 to 2000 in both nations and the fuel sources used also experienced big differences. Units are measured in units of electricity.
Coal was used to create electricity in Australia accounted for 50 out of 100 units in 1980; however, 2000 saw a significant increase in the use of coal, at 130 out of 170 units. Meanwhile, France used the most of nuclear power for producing electrical power, contributed nearly 75% of all fuel sources used.
Australian people depended on hydropower for just approximately 25% of the total electricity production in both years; whereas the figure for hydropower was merely 5% in 1980 before dropping to just 2% in 2000 in France. Oil, on the contrary, remained an important source in producing electricity in the second nation, at 20 out of 90 units and 25 out of 180 units in 1980 and 2000 respectively. The use of natural gas reduced dramatically in both countries in the 20-year-period surveyed.
