The table below describes the number of employees and factories in England and Wales from 1851 to 1901

The table illustrates the number of factories in England and Wales and their total employees and their gender in 5 consecutive decade from 1851 to1901.

Overall, total number of emplyees during the 5 decades decreased significantly with highest number in 1851 and lowest in 1901. Male were the dominant number of employees in every decade compare to female employees except in 1861 which women were the highest one. Total number of factories were the lowest in the beginning of this 5 decade period and increased over the time.

In start of the period, 225 factories were available in england and wales and the number increased dramaticly after 2 decades and reached to 622 unit. The number of factories growed and peaked at 1881 with 721 total in england and wales. Then, the number of factories decreased slowly in the following decades and reached to the 600 unit at 1901.

Although the number of factories grewed from the baseline of 225, the total number of employees decreased dramaticly over the period of the half a centary. In 1851, the 225 factories provided employment for 477100 people whereas in 1901, 600 factories only accomodated 61000 employees. In 1861 more than half of employees were female which was unique in the whole period as male outnumbered female at every decade in terms of employment.
