The table contains information about underground railway systems in six large metropolitans around the world with their opening dates, distance covered and the number of passengers it moves in millions each year.

Overall, the opening dates vary considerably with London being the oldest and Los Angeles the newest railway system. Although the most distance is covered by the London underground, the most passengers are seen by Tokyo metro.

In terms of age, the London tube is the oldest as it opened in 1863. The Paris and Tokyo both opened in early 20th century, in 1900 and 1927 respectively. The Washington and Kyoto underground railways began functioning is late 20th century while Los Angeles subway is the only railway system that was constructed in 21st century in 2001.

Along with being the oldest, the London tube is also the one that covers the most distance with 394 kilometers of route, whereas the smallest track was of Kyoto railway system with only 11 kilometers of route. Even though London has the longest route, the most passengers were seen by Tokyo metro with 1928 million passengers per year.
