The table indicates the amount of land for forests in six different parts of the world in three years (1990, 2000 and 2005).

Overall, Europe had the largest amount of forested land in all three years. It is also noticeable that Oceania was the area with the least amount of forested land.

Between 1900 and 2005, the figure for forest area in Europe rose from 989 to 1001 millions of hectares. Similarly, Asia saw a slight increase in its forested land, from 576 to 584 millions of hectares.

The trends for Africa, North America, Oceania and South America were noticeably different. In Africa, the amount of forested land fell from 749 to 691 millions of hectares. In the same way, in 1990, 199 millions of hectares of land was used for forest, however, in 2005, the figure for this was only 197 millions of hectares. During the same period, the amounts of forest area in North America and South Africa declined by 705 and 882 millions of hectares.
