Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The charts give information on the causes on the degradation in the productivity of agricultural land globally and the percentage of land degradation in Europe, North America and Oceania. The study covers the data in the 1990s.

Overall, it can be seen that, the main reason of worldwide land degradation was over-gazing while least were caused by others. It is also clear that the most affected area was Europe with most of the degraded land came from deforestation.

In detail, more than a third of the overall causes of global land degradation was over-gazing at 35 %. This was closely followed by deforestation at 30 % and over-cultivation at 28 %. Other factors accounted the least of all reasons which was four times less than that with over-cultivation.

In terms of region, majority of the land hit by land degradation was in Europe at 23 %, of which, 9.8 % was accounted to deforestation. Roughly less than half this figure was recorded in Oceania at 13 % where the cause was over-gazing at 11.3 %. Meanwhile, North America had the least affected areas with 5 %, of which, 3.3 % was due to over-cultivation. By comparison the affected areas in Oceania was more than twice that of the regions in North America.
