Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things that we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. You should write at least 250 words.

Some say that advertisement encourages us to buy things that we really do not need, while others argue that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Although this topic, in all likelihood, will never yield a consensual agreement, a constructive dialogue on it can lead to thought provoking discussion. I think that though advertisement is sometimes used to create false belief, it has more uses than problems.

Through advertisements, we get to know about the latest products available in market. We can compare these products and decide to buy the most suitable ones as per our needs. For example, if a family wants to buy a car, they can look at the various advertisements of various cars available in both print and electronic media across the internet. The family can judge the cars on the basis of budget, space, speed, etcetera, and make an informed choice and buy the most suitable car according to their requirements.

Without advertisements, it would be extremely difficult to make a judicial choice. Consumers would be left out of options and would make wrong decisions. Good products might be left behind for less appealing products due to lack of advertisement. Lack of advertisement will directly translate into lack of awareness and most of the people would not be aware about many products available for them in the market.

To conclude, I profoundly believe that the benefits of advertisements far outreach the disadvantages of it.
