Your local council is considering closing a sports and leisure centre that it runs, in order to save money. Write a letter to the council. In your letter:
- give details of how you and your friends or family use the centre;
- explain why the sports and leisure centre is important for local community;
- describe the possible effect on local people if the centre closes.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am wirting to address you a serious matter about ending the activities of the leisure centre which is being seen by the council an unwised place to spend money. On the following, I wil explain why you should not close this facility.
Although some use the centre to practice sports such as swmming, play soccer and basketball, other can rent the salon and host parties, fund raising events, reunions; this shows how versatile and the possibility of not only be seen as a sports centre. Me and my friends, for instance, enjoy planning parties for youngsters and elderly people and we always rent the salon located in the centre because allows us to invite more guests. Also, the centre hosts championships thanks to the soccer team which my brother participate.
Moreover, this leisure centre is in our town's history since it was built, in 1889, by some members of local families and it is considered one the most important monuments. It does more than bring people together, creates strong bonds between people and memories.
Shutting down the leisure centre mean that there will be no more a space to practice sports and this can generate a huge problem for the community because, according to studies around the globe, the habit of practicing sports prevent health diseases, decrease the chance of depression and it is good for the brain. In addition, people won't be a place to get together anymore, so they will be forced to stay look for a sports cente in other community and this could be devastating for this town's sake.
In conclusion, I hope you consider no closing the facility and take my arguments under consideration to make your decision. I expect hearing from you as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
William Scott
