Dear Mr. Samson,
I am writing with regard to the news that the Guangu Sports and recreation centre is likely to be closed soon for saving costs associated with its operation. Frankly speaking, Closure of the centre is not recommendable considering the broader consequences it will have in the community.
To begin with, I have a long connection with this leisure centre and my friends and I have been using the gym and badminton court frequently for more than 10 years now. Moreover, a great proportion of the population in the area, which consists of children, visit the centre on a daily basis as there are no parks for recreation where they can spend their leisure time. Elderly people, who are also the regular attedants seem to complain about lack of choices for leisure activity and now when the only venue of such kind will eventually close, it will have negative effects on the community.
If the centre closes, many temporary residents might relocate to another neighbourhood. Additionally, children might become more prone to illness and can easily adopt unhealthy lifestyle in the lack of proper public facilities.
In light of all mentioned facts, I would like to request you to reconsider your decision. The centre is an extremely valued asset for all of us and the council might in stead decide to raise the charges of the services to minimise the running costs.
I hope you will be able to take my advice into consideration.
