Social media have influenced people bu changing the way they socialize with each other. It is a widely known fact that these days people prefer to have virtual meetings rather than in-person meets. I believe, though social media have made it possible to interact with friends at family at any time from their homes, however it has more disadvantages as it has affected the social life and skills of an individual.
With an increase in the advancement of technology, lot of social media apps are coming in the market. Apps like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter have crashed the market and almost everyone use these platform to interact with their near and dear ones. So, such kind of possible interaction with others from their comfortable home sofa has made people's life easier. Because of a hectic work schedule, individuals rely on such applications for their social interactions. A survey conducted by Social club Ahmedabad, stated that there was a significant decrease in number of social gathering after launch of Facebook video calling facilities.
Dependence on such virtual meeting apps has many negative impact on the society. First, when a person meets face to face, it helps them to develop communication skills, that are really important for young adults. As such skills have an advantage will applying for jobs at later stage, lacking of such skill might hinder their career prospects. Second, a live interaction is always beneficial as one can get to know what the other person is thinking by looking at their body language and facial expression, which is not possible over a phone call. Lastly, meeting in person offers a good connection among people, as some physical gestures make a relation stronger.
In conclusion, even though virtual social interaction offers the liberty to connect with anyone at any time. The disadvantages for lacking interactive skills and personal skills that are really important for over all growth of young people, is a big downside of social media apps.
