Dear John,
I’m sorry that I have not written to you so long as I was abroad for work purpose. I’ve just received your letter and I’m happy to share my experience and advice on communication problem at workplace.
As you are working with different nationalities at work, so this type of issue is natural to occur. Although English is the communication language and people working with you are well verse in this language but sometimes it is difficult to understand them as English is not their mother language.
As you are aware that I was also in a similar position once I started job as a fresh graduate. It was very difficult to catch the accent in the beginning and I used to get the gist only and funnily, once, throughout the meeting, I was just nodding my head and wasn’t understanding a single word of the speaker.
Well, to sort this issue, you have to indulge with people. By simply sitting at your office will not help you to understand them. You need to be more communicative with them. Just start the conversation with their hobbies and favourite sports when you see them, like this way, you will be able to understand there accent.
