Personally, I think that the most important reason to attend a college or university for advanced education is the opportunities available at the institution to prepare oneself for their future career. I believe this way due to the specialised knowledge and skills from attending college. Let us discuss the same in the following paragraphs.
Firstly, a College education requires a student to gain specialised knowledge on a particular subject of interest. It also requires the student to be more self-reliant while preparing for their exams. My experience at college acts as a perfect example of this. When I joined college to study economics, I learned the economic topics and skills I required to be an economist and my preparation for semester exams mostly relied on my preparation without my lecturer's help, making me much more self-reliant.
Secondly, University education mandates their students to gain work experience to graduate. This requirement might help the student to find jobs after graduation on their own or through placements. For instance, my cousin was required to intern at a firm before graduation. This work experience enabled him to get placed right before his graduation.
Furthermore, College consists of an entirely new set of cohorts you might be new to, much more diverse than your schoolmates. Thus, as a student one might have to learn to network and acclimate to the new environment. For example, when I joined college I met people from different schools and different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, I instinctively learned how to network and make friends at my college. This skill acts as one of the most essential skills to advance in a workplace.
As my concluding remark, I would like to state that in my opinion, advanced education is necessary because it helps the student in career preparation by creating opportunities to learn necessary skills and develop a deeper understanding of their specialised field of study.
