The author believes that using electronic databases has several advantages. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article and bring up three reasons to reject it. she thinks using this approach is very uncertain.
The first point the author makes that is electronic records can help reduce costs. It is mentioned by this there is no need to use paper for copying, faxing, transporting and also saving therefore, it costs much less than using traditional method. However, the lecturer opposes this point by explaining that most doctor will not throw out the paper record and will still keep it as backup. It is mentioned that by using electronic record there still be storage cost.
Secondly, the author contends that, electronic records can reduce of medical errors because they are associated with standardization of forms and legible fonts. The lecturer rebuts this argument. she notes that most doctors still use pen and take notes by hand. she says that their staff will create an electronic records later from the notes consequently, there will still be mistakes.
Finally, The author states that large amounts of data which is gathered by electronic medical records can help medical research. The article established that database can provide easy way for search. The concept is refused by the lecturer which asserts that there are some law which restrict access and use database. she put forwards the idea that medical records are private and some patients block using their record for many people.
In conclusion, the lecturer and the author appear to be in disagreement about whether using electronic medical records are beneficial. the author contends that they are three benefits for it which is contradicted by the lecturer.
