Course selection is necessary for each undergraduate student. Some students prefer to choose a course with a popular professor lecturing, while others tend to select a class lectured by professors who are rewarded for outstanding research. As for me, I think selecting a class with a professor who possesses outstanding research rewards is better.
First of all, I can get wider knowledge in the class lectured by professors who have outstanding research rewards. For example, when I studied biochemistry courses in my sophomore, the professor, who had won Nobel chemistry prizes, told me a lot of biosynthesis knowledge, such as ATP production and bio cycling synthesis. With this knowledge, I know 20 kinds of biochemical principles and even some avant-garde concepts. Furthermore, I used the knowledge I learned from that class to participate in academic competition and won the first prize. Hence, enrolling in a class lectured by a professor who has outstanding research rewards really expands my knowledge.
Secondly, attending the class lectured by the professor with extraordinary research rewards can allow me to solve academic problems effectively. For instance, when I attended a math class, my professor, who had a high reputation in the mathematics field, helped me to solve advanced calculus problems. In order to participate in the college Math contest, I got a lot of hints on each difficult math problem from the professor, allowing me to solve the math problems quickly and correctly. Finally, I only spent 30 minutes solving the questions and won the golden medal with ease. Thus, the class lectured by the professor with extraordinary research reward made me solve academic problems effectively.
Last but not least, I can learn a positive attitude from professors who are rewarded for outstanding research if I participate in his or her class. Take myself for example; when I joined a polymer science experiment class, Professor Tung always encouraged students to keep trying. He told us that he failed each experiment at first. After keeping trying, he finally got a significant breakthrough in new polymer discovery and got the college award. Due to this encouragement, I have never given up on each of my failures. I always kept positive thinking to face any challenge in my life. Therefore, Professor Tung’s story really inspired me and encouraged me to be optimistic.
In conclusion, I hold the profound conviction that it is better for me to take the course taught by a professor who possesses outstanding research rewards. After all, I can gain wider knowledge, solve problems effectively, and learn a positive attitude on this kind of course.
