advantages and disadvantages of buying franchise

Essay topics:

advantages and disadvantages of buying franchise

The text discusses some advantages of buying franchise, and states why it is better to buy them instead of starting a new business. On the other hand, the professor goes against stated information and by providing some contradictory information, explains why she is against them.

First, the author claims that people by buying franchises can eliminate the risk of buying goods and services from unreliable suppliers. In contrast, the professor states that most of the big companies force people to buy one specific product or service which is sometimes over-priced, and this is while equivalent products in the market may cost less.

Second, the text mentions that buying franchise decreases the need for advertising, and big companies which sell franchises can do it instead of them. The professor refutes this claim and states that people who have bought franchises have to pay six percent of their total sale which is a noticeable amount of money. In return, the company just do some advertising which is not specified for one franchise. She continues that the company does advertisement for its own products or services which are sold by lots of franchises in different places of the world, and none of their commercials is just for one franchise. We can also hear from her that people who have bought franchises receive little benefits, and independent businesses can gain more profits.

Third, the author mentions that franchises, compared to independent businesses, have more security, and it can decline the risk of failure. On the other hand, the professor casts doubt on this point and states that despite the claim made by the author, the security is one of the biggest issues of franchises. She includes that although franchises compared to independent businesses are less risky, people by buying an already existence business, instead of franchises can obtain twice chance of success. in this way the professor goes against the claim made by the author.
