Chevalier de Seingalt and its memoir as a valid historical source

The article is about the Chevalier de Seingalt (1725-1798) who wrote a memoir of his life. Since Chevalier had connection to many famous people his memoir is worthwhile as a historical source about European society in the eighteenth century. The author of the reading provides some evidences and critical views about Chevalier which indicate most of his stories are not valid. However, the professor explains that the memoir is accurate and refutes each of the author's explanations.
First, the author provides an example of Chevalier's claim about his comfortable and wealthy life in Switzerland. This example is rebutted by the professor. He states that Chevalier took a loan in order to have money to start his work and allocate more money by gambling.
Second, the reading states that criticism casts doubts on the accuracy of conversation that he wrote on the memoir between himself and the well-known writer Voltaire. The professor, on the other hand, argues that Chevalier noted every details of his conversations at each night after the talking. The professor also states that evidences indicate Chevalier wrote the memoir many years after the talking by using that notes.
Third, the author claims that there are many misunderstandings and questions about Chevalier's escape from a secure prison in Venice, Italy. The professor mentions the based on valid documents the prison on that time was old and it would be possible that Chevalier have escaped by using some metals to make a hole. The professor also puts forth the idea that the prison was repaired after the Chevalier's escape.
