Comic books
The topic of the audio and the text presented is : comics medium. The text claims that comics medium is only an American art-form which has inspired other country around the world, while the lecturer disagree with this idea.
In fact, the text present that the first commercially success comic strip was Hogan’s Alley made by an American cartoonist in the 1890s. Yet, the lecturer suggests that there was already comic strip in Europe (Britain and Switzerland) since the 1790s.
Then, the text shows us that the first popular comic book was made by an American; Action Comic featuring Superman. Nevertheless, the audio tells us that the author of Action Comic was not American but Canadian. Moreover, the first popular comic book was Tintin, a Belgium creation, which was made 16 years before Action Comic.
Finally, American authors or designers did not invent comic strips and comic book before spreading it into the world like the text says. Actually, the lecturer informs us that Japanese manga was inspired by Asian art and European creations were not inspired by American’s one. In fact, European’s comics medium has their own style.
