DDT
The topic of the text and the audio presented is the chemical product DDT, which is used to control the spread of unwanted population of insects. While the text describes us the product being dangerous and non efficient, the lecture says the opposite.
First of all, the text tells that DDT is a harmful chemical for humans, animals and plants. Nevertheless, the audio explains that the DDT is dangerous only in big quantities. If we spread or ingest small amount of this product it is not mortal for humans. In fact, it can be beneficial for the plants and animals, the chemical can kill insect’s population that risk spreading diseases.
Moreover, in the passage we can read that DDT endangered human’s life by increasing birth defect, for example. Yet, the lecturer tells us that these data were found in studies that have never been concludes.
Finally, the writing document explains that DDT main goal fails. Indeed, malaria is still spreading in the world trough mosquitoes. By contrast with the text, the lecture teaches us that DDT has been efficient in the past to combat malarias. For instance, in Sri Lanka, malarias’s cases have been reduced due to DDT utilisation.
