comics

Essay topics:

comics

The reading discusses comics and where they were first formed. Comics, as the author mentions, were originally created in America. However the lecturer challenges the claims made by the author.

First of all, the author of the reading claims that the first successful comic strip was Hogan’s Alley that was created in the 1890s.the world’s first distinguished comic character the Yellow kid was featured by Hogan Alley. conversely, the lecturer rebuts it by saying that the Alley comics weren’t that successful and the Yllow Kid wasn’t the world’s first character. In the 1790s there were much more successful and popular comic strips and characters especialy in Britian and in Swiserand.

Secondly, the author asserts that the most popular superhero superman was also created in America. In contrast, the lecturer argues by saying that superhero wasn’t created in America. Quiet the contrary, supermen’s author was Canadian.

Finally, the author states that manga (Japanese comics) was created after World War II when American comics were first brought to Japan. He also says that some Europian comics are inspired by American Disney comic books. On the other hand, the lectuerer claims that in Japanese comics had a grate influence not American comics but asian culture. And what concerns to Europian comics, they were influenced by astecs.

To wrap up, though the reading and the listening are about the origin of comics, the lecturer opposes to the author by bringing explanations.
