According to the professor, there are some good reaseons for getting eco-certificate from the international organization by the wood companies in United states. The reasons are stated below.
Americans do not consider different advertisements with same level of fidelity. The advertisement disseminated by the indivual company would not be trustworthy. However, if the advertisement is spreaded by some recognised International organization, Americans are eager to be faithful on the advertisement which could draw a numerous attention by the consumers. This contradicts with the statement of the article that American consumers do not be trustworthy on the advertisement, in general.
The value of preserve and protect of environment is very important to americans. In addition, getting certificate from the International organization would slightly increase the value (most probably by less than $5) of wood which would not be a major factor in deciding to buy woods, if the woods meet the conditon of high ecological standrads.
If the american wood company do not try to spread their product and trade of wood throughout the world, the eco-certified company of different parts of the worlds may dominate the american market which might brings harmful effect in the trade of american wood company.
