employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day

Essay topics:

employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day.

In this set of material, the reading passage talks about an option for employees, a four-day workweek, and its advantages for both company and employee by providing three reasons. The lecturer casts doubt about what mentioned as an advantage.
The author claims that the shortened workweek would increase company profits because employees would feel more rested and alert, and as a result, they would make fewer costly errors in their work. The professor rejects this idea. He thinks hiring new employees, force the company an additional cost like medical benefits and training costs. So, it would quickly cut into company profits.
The reading passage indicates that it would reduce unemployment by hiring new staff. The Lecturer refutes this point. He says that as he mentioned above hiring new ones is costly so there are other options. Managers might just ask employees to work overtime to make up the difference or it might raise the expectations from them. If this happens, then no additional jobs will be created and current jobs will become more unpleasant.
In the end, this option would increase their life quality while the professor believes it also presents some risks. Because it would decrease their job stability and they are likely to be the first to lose their jobs during an economic downturn and they may be passed for promotions.
