The Sydney Opera House is quite distinctive when it comes to it design itself. Myriads of designs were submitted by firms worldwide, but the selected one was of John Utzon, a Danish architect who was not a eminent figure outside of Denmark. The design of Opera House was more of a sculpture rather than a building as it changes shape depending on the direction of the view. The design was also matched with the environment which showed the opera house with a curved roofs like a sailing ship in the ocean.
The roof was the most attractive and unconventional part of the design. Engineers had most difficulty in stabilizing the shells that was 200 feet high. As technology was not advanced enough, due to the incompletion of the structure, John had to redesign the opera house and it was eventually completed in 1973.
The lecturer consider it as the state of the art, modern and unique. It was unique in a sense that it was not just an international school but it was structured using the advancement of structure engineering and the new material for creating the roof. The Sydney Opera House design is imaginative and it breaks out of the sky scraper, which makes it unique. Lectures disagrees with the organic design, as it is design was more penchant to please the eye rather than merging with the surrounding.
The Opera House is a a blend of an art as well as the architecture. It is widely recognized all over the world and it is one of a kind. The design is not a copy of some other design, neither is the design used for some other house. It makes the building unique.
