Base on the given materials, both article and lecturer discuss a huge marine mammal called steller' s sea cow. The author states that there are several reasons about extinction of sea cows. that being said, the lecturer says that we do not know what cases it and there are problems whit all of those ideas.
Firstly, the author says that se cows extinct because of huge hunting by native people. However, the lecturer explains that the sea cows were very huge, about 9 meter long and 10 tons weight. also the native population was not so much that have been needed for too much hunting the cows.
Secondly, the author mentions that the kelps that were source of food for cows were diminished because of the ecosystems disturbance. yet again, the speaker underscores that if there were a ecosystems changing, it should have effect on other kind of animals like vials. However, there were not any evidence and report of them.
The final point of contention between the reading and listening passages is European fur traders. the author says that they hunt sea cows with possessed weapons that allowed them to quickly kill a large number of the animals. on the other hand the speaker explains that the cows population were diminished thousand years before fur traders. so there was another reason for cows extinct.
