Literature and culture

Essay topics:

Literature and culture

The professor explains the reason why reading general books and watch TV shows instead of literature doesn’t make the culture in general decline. The information she presents directly opposes the points outlined in the reading passage.

First of all, the speaker asserts that literature is not the only source people use to exercise imaginations and preserve the current culture. She argues that nowadays, many books are as well-written as novels. Reading books such as science and politics, in fact, also expands our understanding as well as imaginations. On the other hand, according to the reading, by reading less literature, the society is missing out the advantages of exercising imaginations, emphasizing other people, and sharpening our knowledge in language use since nothing else provides the intellectual stimulation other than literature does.

Secondly, the professor points out that reading books in general doesn’t necessarily mean that it makes people not appreciate their tradition. Nonetheless, watching a wide variety of TV shows and a music video can keep maintaining the value and culture that people hold tightly. However, the reading includes the information that reading the general books which is assumed superficial and poorly written and watching trivial forms of entertainment has lowered the level of culture in general.

Thirdly, the professor states that it’s fallacious if the authors blame the prospective readers for their lack interest in reading literature. Furthermore, she believes that lacking of audience happens because the modern literature such as novel and poems are often abstruse. On the contrary, the reading specifies that reading less literature may likely cause the desire of lead publishers in supporting serious writers go down.
