The main idea of both the passage and the lecture is about pterosaurs. The reading claims that pterosaurs were not capable of flying by pointing out three supporting reasons. The professor, on the other hand, repudiates whatever mentioned in the reading, and provides some evidence to the contrary.

First, the reading states that pterosaurs could not fly, owing to the fact that they were cold-blooded like the other reptiles, and they had a slow metabolism, so they did not have enough energy to fly. However, the professor denies it, saying that according to some fossils, researchers found out that pterosaurs had dense hair on their body. She mentions that warm-blooded animals have hair on their body to preserve against harsh cold weather. Therefore, pterosaurs like warm-blooded animals had a sufficient metabolism which enabled them to produce a lot of energy.

Second, the passage claims that pterosaur was too large, and their large body prevented them from flying. The professor, nevertheless, refuses the author's view and illustrates the idea that pterosaurs had hollow bones. As a result, despite the size of their body, they had lightweight; so they were light enough, which enabled them to fly by flapping their wings.

Third, the author discusses that pterosaurs had small and weak legs, so they could not take off and launch themselves to the air. On the contrary, the professor disagrees with this idea by clarifying that pterosaurs were different from birds. Because birds only use two legs to take off from the earth, however, pterosaurs used four limbs to push themselves from the ground. Thus, they could run fast enough and could jump high to make them fly.
