productivity and rewards

The reading and the lecture talk about the relation between the productivity and rewards . The lecture provides that people are more productive when they are rewarded , however the professore explain that this methode may decrease the prodectivity and refutes the authors idea by giving exemples .

First, the reading claims that many companies follow this approach to encourage employees to work harder with different method such as promotion, luxury vacation, and as a result the gain increase . according to the professor this strategy of rewarding workers is not appreciated by the workers because they feel like they are controlled or manipulated and they even consider it as a punishment and this result less productivity, in addition he say that people deserve more respect for their extra hard work .

Second the reading states that the best way to achieve great results is when the reward system is correctly structured, in the other side the professor oppose this opinion by saying that the more people are related to the rewards the more their expectation for this gift is higher and this will lead them to disappointment, he explain that the workers will never tell their work problems to the supervisor because their afraid they lose the reward and as a result the qualities of the work will decrease .
