To begin with, the reading posits that sharp decline in literature reading audience has caused the missing out of important benefits as nothing can simulate the intellect that literature does. The professor in the listening section disagrees with this statement and says that science, history, etc. which are not literature can be of equally high quality as novels, plays, and poems.
Moreover, the article claims that use of televisions, music videos and web pages which are trivial forms of entertainment has lowered the culture. Nevertheless, the professor refutes this point explaining that culture can be expressed in variety of ways; and continues saying that musics, movies, etc. can be equally informative and intelligent.

The professor opposes this argument and says that less support is due to the author's fault as they are unable to produce good quality literatures which can be readily understandable by the general readers.
