Reducing lake Salinity

Essay topics:

Reducing lake Salinity

The reading and the lecture are both about Salinity. The author of reading feels that there are several ways to reverse the trend of evaporating lake's water and become salty that is threatening lake's health. The lecturer challenges the claims made by author. She is of opinion that these ways can reduce Salinity and save the population and it looks realistic to practice, but it has some problems.
First, the author argues that removal of salt from lake by using Desalination process. The article mentions that this process means they take water to evaporate it by using steam and in that way the salt will stay down and the water will be free from salt and return it back to lake. This specific argument is challenged by lecturer. She claims that the Desalination has problem. Additionally she says that for example, pumping water back to lake with this solid sediments that contain salt and these sediments cause health risks and have chemicals that is toxic like Soliminum.
Second, the writer suggests that there is possibility to dilute salt level in the lakes with water from the ocean. In the article, it is said that the ocean water can be delivered through pipelines or canals to lake to reduce the Salinity of water especially that oceans are 20% less salty than lake. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning that sending water from ocean to lake will reduce Salinity and on the other hand will need construction of pipeline. He elaborates this by bringing up the point that these pipelines or canals will be the way to send water to lake which government can not pay due to the requirement to a lot of money that government ca not afford especially the ocean is one kilometer far from lake.
Finally, the author posits that dividing the lake into sections by walls will reduce the Salinity. Moreover, the article stated that the smaller section will be higher in Salinity and big section will be lower in Salinity and the water will go from small section to big section. In contrast, the lecturer's position is that sectioning lake by walls will work only for a short time. She notes that due to geologic activity in that area like earth quick which will soon damage the walls of lake section and water will go from high Salinity to low Salinity.
