The salton sea in California is actually a salty inland lake The level of salt in the lake s water what scientists call its salinity has been increasing steadily for years because the lake s water is evaporating faster than it is being replaced b

In the reading passage, the writer claims that there are three ways to save lake's water being too salty. The speaker, however, contradics this view for the following three reasons.
First, in the reading passage, it is said that the people can remove salt from lake by using special facilities. Furthermore, it is started in the article that people could pumped and heated the water, dissolve the salt and release the steam. In contrast, the listening holds a view that this solution put people's health in danger. The steam might includes tocxic chemical materials. If people breath it in the air, people would be in danger.
Second, the auther asserts that dilute the salt level with ocean water though pipelines or canals. Also, he marks that Pacific Ocean is 20 percent fresher than lake' water. However, the professor maintains an opposite opionion that the government might don not have much resources for those pipes. Pacific Ocean is 100 kilometers away and the transport fee is very expensive.
Third, the author of the reading passage believes that constructing walls to seperate the lake into different sections would help to control the lake's salinity. But the professor refutes such idea by pointing out that this solution is not stable. Walls would be destroied easily by earthquakes. Then, all sections' water will join together quickly.
